Covid-19 Threat: Covid on the rise, threat yet not away, is northeast prepared?

Guwahati: With talks of another round of lockdowns in North India are doing the circles due to the recent spike in number of Covid cases, is Northeast far away? How well is Northeast prepared owing to the fact that there is a sudden surge in covid cases?

The threat is still there and is evident with the huge numbers of Covid cases reported from North India and spike in fatalities due to Coronavirus in Northeast as well.

In Assam’s Dibrugarh, many flight passengers have tested positive for the dreaded virus in recent times, prompting the local administration to call for stricter measures to contain the spread. Out of 37 cases detected today, 14 are airport passengers. The local administration, meanwhile, has admitted that an increasing number of inbound COVID-19 patients is indeed a problem.

A 50-year -old Covid-19 positive male passed away on 27 November at around 2:45 pm in his native place Innao, in Changlang district.

He was suffering from alcoholic liver disease and was detected as being Covid-19 positive on 26 November at the zonal general hospital in Tezu, as per health department officials. With this, the number of victims claimed by the virus rose to 52.

Sikkim, one of the last states in India to report cases of the novel coronavirus, presently has the third-highest case fatality rate in the country.

The Northeast Indian state reported its first COVID case in late May. Case fatality rate or CFR is the ratio of Covid deaths to the total number of cases recorded. Sikkim recorded four more COVID-19 related deaths on Saturday, taking the death toll in the State to 107.
