Assam tops list for highest number of female boozers compared to other states
Guwahati: Women in Assam have topped the chart among alcohol consumers in India while women in Nagaland occupy the second lowest along with Goa, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka.

Women of Nagaland shared the second position along with Goa, Himachal Pradesh, and Karnataka with only 0.1% of those between the age of15-54 years in alcohol consumption, revealed the Health and Family Welfare Statistics in India 2019-2020.
With zero per cent, Chandigarh and Lakshadweep is the lowest, while Assam is on top of the chart with 26.3 % of women consuming alcohol.
As per reports on indicators of alcohol consumption and tobacco use, between 15 and 54 age who consume alcohol, Lakshadweep has the lowest rate with 4.9% and 5.4% respectively.

UP’s consumption is second lowest among the nine states surveyed (Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Assam), with Rajasthan recording the lowerst prevelence at 3.4%. The survey, conducted by the Registrar General of India (RGI) across 284 districts in these states that account for about 48% of the total population, 59% of all infant deaths, 75% of under five deaths and 62% of maternal deaths in the county, also found that men from Chhattisgarh love their drink, recording the highest percentage prevalence at 31.6%, followed by Jharkhand (24.6%) and Assam (23.8%).
When it comes to women, however, no one could beat the Assamese.
The indicators also revealed, in Nagaland, 22.3% of men aged between 15-49 and 38.8% of men aged between 15-49 years consume alcohol, while Assam has the highest percentage of men aged 15-54 years who consume alcohol with 59.4% and Arunachal Pradesh has the highest with 59.9% of men aged 15-49 who consume alcohol.

Ironically, among the 0.1% of women who consume alcohol, Nagaland has the highest percentage of women who consume alcohol about once a week with 65.5%, and men from Goa have the highest percentage with 59.3%.
