Slain Delhi Police constable Ratan Lal’s family refuse cremation, sit-in-protest demanding martyr status
New Delhi: Family members of slain Delhi Police constable Ratan Lal have blocked the road leading to his village in Rajasthan. The family is occupying the road and demanding that Ratan Lal be given the status of a martyr.
Ratan Lal (42), a head constable attached to the office of the ACP Gokalpuri, died after he sustained injuries during stone pelting at Chand Bagh. He is survived by his wife and three children.
In Rajasthan, Ratan Lal’s family members are now sitting on a protest on the road leading to his village Sadinsar in Sikar district.

They claim that Ratan Lal will now be cremated till the time he is given the status of a martyr.
Senior police officials and district administration were seen trying to convince the family members to vacate the road and allow the cremation of Ratan Lal.

Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal led the wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday to pay tributes to Ratan Lal.
Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai and Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik also paid their respects to the slain policeman along with a host of other police officials at the Shaheed Smarak Sthal, New Delhi Lines.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Delhi violence has climbed to 17 on Wednesday.
