Assam Government Launch Financial Schemes for Children Orphaned by Covid-19
Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the “Mukhyamantri Sishu Sewa Achoni” scheme for the orphan children whose parents died of Covid-19 in the state. This scheme will be launched on the occasion of completion of the seven years of the NDA government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As per this scheme, those children who have lost both their parents and are being looked after by their extended family members will be entitled to Rs 3,500 financial aid per month.

While addressing the media at Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati the CM said, “If the sole bread-earner of the family dies, we will provide Rs 3,500 per month to their family. It will be provided till they attain the level of employment.”
The CM also stated that said those children with no extended family will be sent to residential schools or institutions, with the state bearing all their expenses.

In the case of girls of marriageable age who have lost their parents, the government of Assam will provide 10 gm gold under the Arundhati scheme and an amount of Rs.50,000 to each such girls.
The government will also provide a laptop or a tablet to every school and college-going student who have lost their parents to Covid-19 or post Covid-19 complications including those enrolled for vocational training.

Apart from Assam, the other states who announced the Covid-19 relief package for those orphaned children include – Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu.
