Assam’s handicraft and handloom sector goes online
Guwahati: Flipkart and Assam’s Industries and Commerce Department have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This comes as a move to promote the state’s local arts, handloom and handicraft sector by bringing them into the e-commerce fold.
The partnership is under the ‘Flipkart Samarth’ program which will enable national market access of Assam’s artisans’ work. Both the parties aim to working towards avenues that will be beneficial to increase business opportunities for the weavers and craftsmen of Assam.

Chandra Mohan Patowary, Minister of Industries and Commerce of Assam said, “Assam is known for its rich, diverse and traditional heritage and is a strong example of how local culture can be preserved while keeping the development of the state as a priority. We are happy that the partnership with Flipkart will enable our local artisans and weavers to showcase their products to a wider audience.”
