Alleged irregularities in Motor vehicle tax leads to suspension of Kamrup (M) DTO, 3 others
Guwahati: Assam transport minister Chandra Mohan Patowary has directed the transport department to place Kamrup Metro DTO, Arun Bora and 3 others under suspension for irregularities in motor vehicle tax.

The minister has issued the directive after the irregularities regarding the deposit of motor vehicle tax came to the notice of the transport department.
“An inquiry was immediately inititated to look into the matter. It was discovered that tax evasion was being allowed by the DTO Kamrup Metro, wherein a vehicle owner could pay the current year tax by skipping the arrear. This was against the rules,” Janasanyog said in a press release.

Acting on the transport minister’s direction, the department has placed DTO Arun Bora, head assistant Simanta Neog; junior assistant Arup Kr Barman, and cashier Sidhheshwar Ranghang, all employees of the Kamrup Metro DTO office, under suspension with immediate effect.

The transport department has directed the commissioner of transport, Assam to conduct a detailed inquiry into the matter, the release said.
The department will recover the taxes wherever evaded, as all the data is available in the NIC database, it said.
