Me-Dam-Me-Phi observed across Assam

The people of Assam observed Me-Dam-Me-Phi across the State on Friday to offer tributes to the Ahom ancestors. People of all sections participate in the rituals in different places. Traditional offerings were also made on the occasion.

The word ‘Me’ means offering, ‘Dam’ means ancestors and ‘Phi’ means gods. So the word ‘Me-Dam-Me-Phi’ means oblations offered to the dead and sacrifices to gods.

Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to extend his greetings on this auspicious occasion. “May the blessings of the ancestors guide us in building a united and strong Assam,” he wrote.

CM Sonowal will attend central Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration in Charaideo. Also, former CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Editor-in-Chief of Pratidin Time Nitumoni Saikia will attend another Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration at Boarding Field in Sivasagar.
