AJYCP To Move SC seeking ILP for Assam

Frontline Students’ Organisation, Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), on Thursday said that it will move the Supreme Court with the demand of introducing Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Assam for protecting the indigenous communities from “external infiltration and internal aggression”.

The outfit demanded that the government must immediately bring Assam under the Inner Line Permit (ILP) regime and also ensure the protection of Assamese and all other indigenous people in the state.

Addressing a press conference, AJYCP general secretary Palash Changmai said that the formalities on the part of the youth body have been completed and the legal procedure would be started when the apex court opens on January 5.

“The ILP is fundamental for a state like Assam to protect its identity and culture. This has been a 40-year-old demand, the fulfillment of which would not have threatened our identity in the way it has now. Besides, there is no need to amend the constitution for introducing ILP”, Changmai said.
