Insurance scam: HC asks DGP to take special measures

In a recent development in the Rs. 500 crore insurance scam case in the State, the Gauhati High Court on Wednesday asked the Director General of Police (DGP) to take special measures in the investigation.
The High Court asked the DGP to appoint an ADGP to investigate the scam. The High Court was hearing a PIL filed by Jitul Deka, Secretary-General of Asomiya Juva Mancha.
The High Court further asked the applicant to file documents related to the scam to the SPs of concerned districts. The SP after verifying the documents would lodge case regarding the scam and inform the ADGP regarding the development.
In September last year, five doctors were detained by the Barpeta police in connection with the sensational scam. One of the detained doctors allegedly declared a person named Moinuddin Amhed dead on Aug 4th 2016 and claimed insurance.
