Assam Reports Drop in Covid-19 Cases by 53% in a Day

Digital Desk: Assam recorded a 53% decrease in daily covid-19 cases on Wednesday compared to the previous day, with 1,951 more people testing positive with the virus, as per the official data.

However, the positivity rate jumped to 9.85 percent with only 19,803 samples examined during the day, up from 9.61 percent on Tuesday with 43,587 samples tested, according to the National Health Mission (NHM).

On Tuesday, the state registered 4,189 new covid-19 cases, a drop of nearly 1,700 cases from the previous day.

During the day, 21 individuals died due to the virus, with seven of them from Kamrup (M).

With this, the overall fatality tally has now risen to 7,706, with 1,347 of them having co-morbidities, according to the NHM.

Since Tuesday, 7,365 patients have recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of recovered people to 6,61,084.

The number of new cases reported in Kamrup (M) fell by approximately 58 percent from the previous day’s total of 998 cases. So far, 1,52,296 cases have been detected.

Currently, there are 36,063 active cases in the state.

The biggest number of new cases were found in Kamrup (M), with 422 patients, followed by 139 in Jorhat, 91 in Lakhimpur, and 87 in Dibrugarh.

With a total of 7,04,853 covid-19 cases in Assam, the overall positivity rate is 2.55 percent, with 2,76,74,656 samples tested so far.

On the other hand, 4,09,78,311 doses of covid-19 vaccine have been administered so far, including 2,31,07,805 initial doses, 1,77,42,536 second doses, and 1,27,970 precaution doses, as per NHM.

On Wednesday, 35,070 persons were vaccinated, according to the report.
