Assam BJP finalises candidates for bypolls

The Assam BJP on Wednesday finalised candidates’ panel for three Legislative Assembly constituencies of Assam which will go to bypolls on October 21. The party is yet to shortlist the panel of candidates for the Jania constituency.

The election committee of the State BJP held a meeting in Guwahati and finalised candidates’ panel for the Sonari, Rangapara and Ratabari constituencies. The shortlisted candidates for Sonari are – Swakhar Jyoti Gogoi, Nabanita Handique and Anup Singh Rajpurohit. For Rangapara, the shortlisted candidates are – Rajen Borthakur, Keshab Upadhyay and Bata Surang and the shortlisted candidates for Ratabari are – Jaydev Das, Vijay Malakar and Sunil Bil.

The meeting was attended by CM Sarbananda Sonowal, Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior leaders of the party. The committee will forward the names of the shortlisted candidates to the national committee.
