Rape victim’s suicide: Mazbat OC suspended

The officer-in-charge of the Mazbat police station under Udalguri district has been suspended. The OC, Upendra Chandra Barman was suspended for denying to lodge a rape case.

According to reports, a rape victim committed suicide after the OC had denied filing the case and instead offered Rs. 40,000 to dismiss her allegation.

“The rape accused is absconding. Police didn’t conduct a thorough investigation. She was upset with police inaction and comments passed at her by women in the neighbourhood, which led her to kill herself,” said a family member of the victim.
