Storm, rain play spoilsport during campaigning
A storm accompanied by heavy rains affected election campaigning at various places today (March 31). In Guwahati, the storm accompanied by heavy rains threw life out of gear for sometime in the morning and around noon. Besides catching Sunday shoppers unawares, the storm also affected the campaign schedule of many candidates across the State.
For the second time in a week, it was almost pitch dark even though the clock had just struck 12 noon in Guwahati. Similar weather phenomena were also witnessed near the outskirts of Guwahati and at various places, including Sipajhar under Mangaldoi Lok Sabha constituency. Party activists as well as some candidates had to run for cover following the storm and heavy rains it brought.
Meanwhile in Guwahati, cars were seen plying with headlights switched on as visibility came down following the storm and heavy rains. There have also been reports coming in from some places about trees getting uprooted as a result of the storm.
According to local belief, the tropical storm that often lashes parts of the State in the run-up to Rongali Bihu and after is known ‘Bordoisila’.
